Cow Bay Pioneer Guesthouse

Clean comfortable lodging option in a quiet part of town next to a well kept garden with historical interest. A self serve kind of experience with a community kitchen and coffee/tea/fresh fruits offered in the lobby. No staff on premises after regular business hours. We were efficiently taken care of when we checked in by a friendly receptionist.

Went there before and after visiting Haida Gwaii and had great experience both times. The staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating. The place is very clean, beds are comfortable and washrooms/showers are sparkling clean. Though the place was almost full, it wasn’t noisy and I didn’t have to wait for washrooms or showers. Will definitely stay there next time I’m in Rupert.

Cool place with a hostel-like feeling. It's nice to have a shared kitchen, and they also have private suites. The rooms with the shared bathroom are quite small but still worth it. Nice location next to the sunken gardens and the cozier part of town.

This place is very nice. It has a great atmosphere. All the guests I've met so far have been awesome to chat with. The rooms are very basic. It's a bed with shared washroom s. They're clean and comfortable. The only thing I may have an issue with is that the walls are super thin. If that's a concern, bring some ear plugs. As well, it could use a few repairs here and there, but nothing major

Located very close to Cow Bay and most of the attractions of Prince Rupert this hostel affiliated to the HI Canada group is a very reasonable and good option for the budget traveler. There are private rooms available as well. Though the rooms are small it is neat and clean and all the conveniences are provided. There is a community kitchen as well where you can cook your own food and save on expenses.

Booking with Pioneer was easy and reassuring. I was able to add another day earlier over the phone short notice with no issue. I arrived in Prince Rupert at 5am off the HG ferry in the midst of a logistical nightmare. I walked to Pioneer and waited until they were open, aware that they were not advertised as a 24hour front desk. At 9am, they ensured my room was ready far ahead of check in time (4pm); they did not charge me extra for early check in though it was within their right to do so. Accommodations were simple, modest and clean; exactly as advertised. Sharing bathrooms was not an issue. Beautiful gazebo out back for smoking if you partake. Location is incredible; Cow Bay is full of wonderful shops, and Pioneer is within walking distance to many amentities, eateries, and attractions. Staff were always present and available, but not overbearing. I received my DD in full noon after checkout. All around great experience, and will be my go-to when staying in Prince Rupert from now on. Thank you to hotel management! You guys made a very positive impact on a trip that was otherwise not going well. :)

Very cute, affordable, and clean. My first time staying in a hostel and was nervous about sharing washrooms but there's 3 on the second floor and were nice and clean. Rooms are a little small but the duvet and pillows were super cozy. Walls are thin and you can hear everything on the hallway but other guests were quiet and considerate. I would stay again!

Really loved my stay at this place. From my late arrival on the train the staff were all very helpful. I stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom which was great. The bed was extremely comfy! The shared bathrooms were very clean and modern, and there were lots. The place was very quiet, I didn't encounter another guest during my stay despite being told the place was busy! The kitchen was amazingly well equipped, probably the best kitchen I have seen in a hostel/lodge. I enjoyed the outdoor seating area. The place is very close to pretty much everything in Prince Rupert, particularly the touristy area. Despite mixed reviews below my experience was fantastic and would definitely recommend this place!
